Many reviews of Brave say Merida is unlikeable, but I liked her because she seemed like a real teenage girl trying to forge an identity and negotiate her place in the world.  The relationship between teenage girls and their moms is rarely all sweetness and light.  The fact that the writers didn’t shy away from this is what makes the movie “brave” to me.  Do you think there is as much pressure on boy characters to be likeable?
