The Newberry Medal–winner was based on the true story of a Native American woman left behind when the rest of the Nicoleño tribe was evacuated from the channel islands by missionaries after the population was decimated by Russian fur traders; one story has it she returned to the island to search for her missing child. My tutoring client happens to live three mere blocks from Barney’s in Beverly Hills and I swear my car seemed to steer itself right into the parking lot.  I’ve been very curious about the latest and greatest in jean trends as I’ve owned my current two pairs for few years now and after many moons in heavy rotation I’m ready to say adios to my straight-leg and skinny amigos. After all, It’s pretty remarkable what a hot new pair of jeans can do for my confidence.  Now, I’m all for a bargain, but I like to at least know what the high end places are offering so I can stay au courant when I am seeking out knock offs at more accessible places .. or maybe, maybe, if I REALLY love a pair, I’ll splurge.  Imagine my delight when I saw that the adorable salmon colored pants, also known as Nantucket Reds, in a hip skinny jean style. Too bad they looked like flesh colored scuba gear on me.  (I don’t exactly have legs that go on forever.)  I can’t pull these beauties off… but maybe the protagonist of my YA novel Nantucket Blue can.
